Art Therapy
What is Art Therapy?
Art therapy combines the creative process of art making and the practices of psychotherapy. Art therapy is a title-protected mental health profession that enriches the lives of individuals, families, and communities through active art-making, creative process, applied psychological theory, and human experience within a psychotherapeutic relationship.
How would I benefit from Art Therapy?
Use art to explore and communicate feelings that are hard to verbalize.
Support emotional development and help understand personal emotions.
Sooth intense feelings and making abstract experiences more tangible.
Create mental space to process, reframe thoughts, and build identity.
Strengthen the mind–body connection through creative expression.
Encourage nonverbal, nonlinear communication of one’s inner world.
What if I’m “not good” at art?
Art therapy is for people of all ages and abilities. Art therapy is about self-expression and exploration, not about making “good” art. Prior art experience, skill, or technique is not required to participate and benefit from art therapy.
